He inherited Ashley Hall, St. Andrew's Parish, from his uncle, Lieutenant‑Governor William Bull (1710‑1791), and resided there until his death in 1805. This second marriage was to the widow of Thomas Lynch, late delegate to the Continental Congress and father of Thomas Lynch, Jr., signer of the Declaration of Independence.
